Why do people that profess to follow Jesus and study the scriptures participate in Christmas?

Isn't that a catholic substitution of the 7 feasts which God said would never end? I appreciate the time to get together with family and the time off work but why put Jesus in a manger every year when we are not directed by Gods Word to honor Him in this way? To me its pagan and besides Jesus was not born Dec 25. The only person on earth that He said honored Him was Mary when she poured out the precious alabaster offering before His death on the cross. All the rest is a diversion from what God wants from real worshippers to me. Anybody have any intellegent responses that can honor Jesus proper?
