Is Thermite Illegal?!?

We did an experiment in chemistry the other day , and we produced and ignited thermte, using potium permanganate and glycerin. I was wondering if it was legal for me to go home and make my own thermite...i mean if we can make it in school i should be able to make it at home right? Also, if i buy ingredients online, is there any repercussions that can happen w/ the goverment (i. e. Patriot Act)?
